A New Season

For Air Force veteran Michael, home had become a place of illness and worry. The heat and humidity of North Carolina summers had triggered mold growth beneath the floors of his house, making him sick and compromising the structure beneath his feet.

“I cannot live in my home when this mold is activated,” Michael explained. The mold caused serious allergic reactions, brain fog, coughing, dizziness, and headaches—and was especially visible beneath his refrigerator. “My floor has been compromised and is beginning to bust through,” he said. “This is apparent in the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom.”
The source of the problem was deeper than it seemed. Moisture had rotted the wood subfloor, causing sections to sag and cave in. Michael’s home was no longer safe, and the respiratory symptoms kept him from living there during the warmest months of the year.
He first heard about WARM NC through his church, and soon after, his application for repairs was approved. With the help of two incredible volunteer groups, the Band of Brothers and the Compass Pointe Veterans Club, Michael’s home received the critical repairs it needed.

“The floors are beautiful,” he wrote in a thank you note to the WARM team. “The staff and volunteers were a pleasure to work with. Everyone worked so hard” Michael expressed gratitude to our staff for their leadership and care.
Now Michael no longer has to leave his home during the summer. With new floors and no mold in sight, he can breathe easier and enjoy the everyday things he loves, spending time with his cats, and being outside in his yard.
“The very best,” he wrote, “May God reward you greatly for all your efforts.”
